Tribute In Light: Powerful Installation In Honor Of September 11
By Kelly Koo, 12 Sep 2013
Two powerful beams of light broke through the somber darkness on September 11 this year, in tribute to the harrowing events of 2001.
The Municipal Art Society of New York produced ‘Tribute in Light’ and presented it for the first time on March 11, 2002. It has been installed annually ever since.
The light beams reached four miles into the sky and are visible to all of New York City, as well as most of suburban North New Jersey and Long Island.
The stunning shafts of light are formed by 88 searchlights and are like spectral visions of the fallen Twin Towers.
The beams penetrate the cloud layer and give off a celestial glow, lighting up the city at night.
