Enjoy A Bicycle Ride On The Water With ‘Water Biking’
By Kelly Koo, 07 Oct 2013
Multitalented adventure-seeker Judah Schiller started thinking of a way to bring bike commuters across the Bay from Oakland into San Francisco. The new Bay Bridge had a bike lane, but it stopped halfway to San Francisco.
Schiller started ‘The BayCycle Project’, a venture towards “opening a new aquatic frontier in biking”. The new sport uses basic cycling skills—the only difference is that the bike is strapped onto a floatation device whereby a propeller is turned when you pedal. Both bike and biker will remain dry, and the latter can enjoy a peaceful ride away from congested roads.
To promote his project, Schiller was the first person to water-bike across the San Francisco Bay. The ride was a success, and Schiller hopes to encourage more bikers to pick up this refreshing sport.
