In London, A Giant WiFi-Providing Canopy Made Of 500 Blue Umbrellas
By Anthea Quay, 22 Oct 2013
To celebrate the final O2 hotspot being switched on—at the four shopping malls, 240 cafes, cars and restaurants and 20 acres of parks—the communications company opened a canopy of umbrellas in partnership with Canary Wharf Group.
Dubbed “UK’s biggest umbrella”, the stunning display made up of 500 individual mostly blue umbrellas “keeps passers-by covered” as it not only shelters them from the rain, but also symbolizes the free WiFi provided within the area.
The installation found at Reuters Plaza, London, measures 6x8-meters and took three weeks to create; it was made by a group of artists from Helix 3D.
