Artist Stitches Lionel Richie Song Lyrics On Discarded Furniture
By Kelly Koo, 12 Dec 2013
Wisconsin-based fiber artist, Molly Evans, put some lovely sunshiny cheer in the paths of pedestrians with her ‘Lionel Stitchie’ street art project.
Armed with yellow yarn and a tag gun, she stitched snippets of Richie’s famous lyrics onto discarded pieces of furniture that she found on the streets.
Her project was “born out of a love for the breakups with our furniture”, addressing the fleeting relationships people have with their furniture, and how they symbolize different phases in life.
Her whimsical cursive writing gave sad pieces of furniture a voice—specifically, Lionel Richie’s feel-good croon—and we’re sure they made even the grumpiest neighbor smile.
