This Would Probably Be The Most Minimalist Nativity Scene You’ll Ever See
By Dorothy Tan, 17 Dec 2013
There can be a lot of contention about Christmas nativity scenes—for instance, why is Baby Jesus so often depicted as a blond, blue-eyed boy?
To remove these cultural biases from the famous scene, designer Emilie Voirin has created the “Minimal Nativity Set”, which is supposed to be “culturally agnostic”.
Consisting of simple wooden blocks printed with the names of the various characters—including two blocks labeled as “Sheep” and “Donkey”—it is a tongue-in-cheek response to the “mass localization and commercialization of Christian figures”, according to Fast Co. Design.
Voirin states that “the idea was to show the least design features for the story's representation.”
You can order the Minimal Nativity Set over here for US$40.
