Awe-Inspiring & Dramatic Photographs Of Immensely Powerful Superstorms
By Dorothy Tan, 14 Jan 2014
While most people try to keep away from potentially devastating and very dangerous mega-storms, there are some others who would go chasing after them.
Since 2009, California-based photographer Mitch Dobrowner has been shooting storms throughout Mid-Western and Western U.S.A—his awe-inspiring images of these superstorms are made even more dramatic by his choice of photographing them only in black and white.
Partnering up with professional storm-chaser Roger Hill, he has managed to capture the overwhelming power and beauty of these natural phenomena—his amazing photographs have been featured in National Geographic, TIME Magazine and many other renowned publications.
According to Dobrowner, “Words are inadequate to describe the experience of photographing this immense power and beauty. And the most exciting part is with each trip I really don’t know what to expect.”
In these pictures, gigantic billowing clouds and flashing bolts of lightning are juxtaposed against tiny houses and carefully cultivated farms, giving the viewer a sense of humankind’s helplessness against the wrath of Mother Nature.
