Pretty, Teabag-Like Condom Packaging That Is Designed For Women
By Dorothy Tan, 16 Jan 2014
To help women feel more comfortable about buying, carrying and storing condoms, a group of students from the School of Visual Arts in New York City has come up with an attractive concept packaging design for condoms.
According to a survey done by the students, “three-quarters (77%) said they felt embarrassed buying the product, while 60% said they believed women who carry condoms are promiscuous”.
The Mine condoms feature a colorful, “female-friendly” design—which could be mistaken for teabags—that would ideally make women feel more at ease when buying them at the grocery store or placing them out in the open at home.
This new packaging is also accompanied by a nifty bedside holder that stores both condoms and tampons—by placing condoms alongside other everyday necessities, the team behind Mine condoms hope to do away with the “shame” that some women feel about owning condoms.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which has set this design challenge, may help make Mine condoms a reality in the future.
What do you think—if you are a woman, would this new packaging design make it easier for you to buy and store condoms?
