Sagmeister & Walsh Creates Public Art Installation Using 250,000 Euro Cent Coins
By Amanda Mok, 14 Mar 2014
New York-based design company Sagmeister & Walsh, whom we have previously featured, has created a 300-square-meter public art installation using 250,000 Euro cent coins in four different shades to spell out the phrase, ‘Obsessions Make My Life Worse And My Work Better’.
The message of the installation is about having a passion for work. Stefan Sagmeister, art director of the installation said, “I do obsess over our work and think that a number of our better projects came out of such an obsession…obsessions seem to be an important ingredient in the work of many of our favorite contemporary artists.”
Unfortunately, the installation, which took eight days and 100 volunteers to complete is no longer at Waagdragerhof Square in Amsterdam, because less than 20 hours after it was unveiled, a thief was seen sneaking away with the coins.
Check out the installation below.
