A ‘Cologne’ That Could Help You Survive The Zombie Apocalypse
By Thia Shi Min, 25 Mar 2014
Inspired by the final season of The Walking Dead, the folks at the American Chemical Society have come up with a YouTube video that teaches us how we can survive the zombie apocalypse by making a “cologne” that smells like corpses.
This cologne draws inspiration from a scene in the series—some characters smeared some zombie guts on themselves to make their way through the horde. Dr Raychelle Burks explains why this method works as decaying bodies are made of putrescine and cadaverine. When these chemicals are mixed with methanethiol, they give off a pungent odor that will mask your natural one.
These chemicals come from E. coli bacteria, and there is enough of these stinkers to go around—"we won't have to make a whole lot to save a whole lot of people," Burks stated.
Watch the video below to get a better idea of how this “cologne” would protect you from a horde of flesh-eating zombies.
