Controversial Charity Campaign Urges People To ‘Fuck The Poor’
By John Yong, 08 Apr 2014
London charity The Pilion Trust has conducted a controversial social experiment on Londoners to see if they really cared about the less fortunate.
With the help of advertising agency Publicis, they sent a man onto the streets, wearing a sign saying ‘Fuck The Poor’, and filmed people’s reactions to the offensive statement. Some people confronted the man and told him off for his insensitivity.
The man then flipped the sign over so that it read ‘Help The Poor’ and proceeded to ask for donations—but this time, people completely ignored him.
The video concludes with the message, “We know you care. Please care enough to give”.
Savvas Panas, the Chief Executive of Pilion Trust, said, “We understand that some may be shocked by this footage. We are more offended, however, that people across the United Kingdom are living in adverse poverty.”
What do you think of the campaign? Does it send an effective message?
