Clever Pictogram Posters That Promote Cultures Around The World Without Words
By Jillian Wong, 13 May 2014
Hamburg-based design firm Mutabor Design has created a wonderful collection of pictogram posters that promote different cultures around the world.
They were designed to accompany Lingua Digitalis, the third in a series of Lingua book titles that promote global wordless understanding.
Each cleverly-designed poster features a face made up of playfully assembled illustrations of country-specific icons.
The poster for France features a wine glass, the Chanel logo and a mustache, while the design for Brazil features the outline of a woman’s body, a couple of soccer balls and the Christ the Redeemer statue ingeniously incorporated into her lower body.
They are accompanied by their respective iconic catchwords–“Speak Autobahn” for Germany, “Speak Dolce Vita” for Italy, and “Speak Bonsai” for Japan.
With their witty illustrations and expressive, thoughtfully-designed details, we think these posters certainly get their message across without the help of words.
The outstanding posters snagged Mutabor Design the Grand Prix for Communication Design at the 2013 Red Dot Design Award.
