Props From ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ Charmingly Illustrated In Flat Design
By Dorothy Tan, 13 May 2014
Wes Anderson’s movies are always filled with delightful visual elements and his latest film, The Grand Budapest Hotel is no exception. Inspired by the film’s charming aesthetic, Barcelona-based designer Lorena G has created a lovely collection of flat design illustrations.
Rendering the iconic objects that are featured in the movie using a neat, two-dimensional style, the designer has managed to recreate the quirky, light-hearted spirit of the original production. From the beautiful Mendl’s cake to the now-famous L’air de Panache, each illustration in the series is a delightful tribute to the director and his unique cinematic techniques.
Lorena G has turned these illustrations into prints and merchandise—you can purchase them in the form of a phone cover, mug, tote bag and more here.

What do you think—is flat design simply overdone, or are there cases where it can still be used to great effect?
