Twitter Releases A Slew Of World Cup-Related Features
By Valerie Chang, 11 Jun 2014
Gearing up for the World Cup, which is happening on Thursday, Twitter has unveiled a whole host of features specific to the worldwide sporting event.
In a video titled ‘#WorldCup on Twitter: Love every second’, you will be greeted by sights of Twitter users from Brazil, Africa and Japan using the official ‘#WorldCup’ hashtag in their tweets.
Through the official ‘#WorldCup’ and ‘#WorldCup2014’ hashtags, users can also keep up-to-date with the soccer tournament and match timelines.
Hashflags have also made a comeback, after its first introduction in 2010, where a relevant country’s flag will appear in your tweet if you use a hashtag before a particular World Cup team’s three-letter country code. Due to a bug, this feature is temporarily unavailable for iPhone users at the moment.
Soccer fans can also vote for their team of choice through ‘The World Cup of Tweets’. The country with the most mentions will then be announced on Thursday via @TwitterSports and @TwitterData just before the World Cup commences proper.
