Hyperrealistic Stone Sculptures Of Cookies, Sandwiches, Everyday Objects
By Melissa Goh, 18 Jun 2014
Brooklyn artist Robin Antar has created a collection of hyperrealistic everyday objects that are carved out of stones.
Using a technique she invented 20 years ago, she starts by choosing stones in a similar color to the subject, sometimes dyeing them to obtain the closest color.
Being visually impaired in one eye, the artist keeps the physical model close to her while “carving, chiseling, sanding, and mounting” these stone replicas.
Her sculptures include depictions of food items like cookies, sandwiches and condiments, in addition to pieces such as a denim jacket and boxing gloves.
Interested readers will be able to catch her exhibition at The Waterfall Gallery & Mansion in New York City, from now through 31 August 2014.
