Photographer Takes Portraits Of His Children Styled In Different Eras
By Wan Munirah, 13 Aug 2014
Great Depression, 1930s
The stars in photographer Tyler Orehek’s ‘The Vintage Project’ may not have experienced the different eras that they were styled in, but their curious and slightly confused looks made their photos appear rather endearing.
For his ongoing photo series, started in 2012, the New York-based photographer styled his two young children, Tyler and Lauren, in costumes and props that reflected the various eras in the 20th century.
Memorable eras like the 1930s’ Great Depression, and the swinging 1970s were featured amidst appropriately styled and staged backgrounds.
Orehek said that he preferred to feature his children instead of adults in his work because the juxtaposition lets the viewer focus on the “essence” of these eras.
“Children, having no preconceptions of the roles I place them in, can more truly embody the individuals they’re endeavoring to be within my compositions,” said Orehek.
