An Office That ‘Hides Itself’ After Work To Stop Employees From Staying Late
By Tay Xing Wei, 18 Sep 2014
By day, Amsterdam design studio Heldergroen is a typical workspace. However, by night, the desks “disappears” and the space is used for other activities. This unusual office design was conceptualized by Bright Green and brought to life by Zecc Architects.
Employees at Heldergroen are unable to work after office hours, because at 6pm, a key is turned and the desks are lifted into the air by steel cables.
Sander Veenendaal, creative director for Heldergroen explained that the company “thinks that doing activities like this makes it easier for people to work here” and it ensures that the company staff achieve a good work-life balance.
Once everything is kept away, the studio offers the empty space to others for free, where yoga and dance classes can be conducted.
“We believe that if you give something, in this case a room to do anything you like, you will eventually get something back,” said Veenendaal.
