A Refreshing Mini-Documentary On The Tension Creatives Have To Deal With
By Valerie Chang, 12 Nov 2014
“I always remember making art. That’s what I grew up with, I didn’t know you were supposed to do anything else,” said artist Mac Premo.
Born in Washington DC, Premo labels himself as a “stuffmaker”.
He said, “The label I put on myself is ‘stuffmaker’, ‘cause I make stuff. But my discipline is collage. Collage in terms of like resin, paper, glue, wood, sound, images, photographs and films and you know, whatever.”
In the following three-minute-long mini-documentary, Premo shares the struggles and tension that creatives have to face and deal with.
“Sometimes if I don’t have enough work, it’s like okay, the art making is great, but I really got to make some f****** money. And then there are other times when I have a lot of work, and I need to get back to the art. It’s a balance for me. I have to be doing art,” said Premo.
