Airbnb’s Wonderful Handmade Ad Was Shot In One Take & Features Real Listings
By Jillian Wong, 26 Nov 2014
On the heels of the announcement of its print magazine for travelers, home rental platform Airbnb has unveiled a lovely handmade ad for its global digital campaign.
In ‘Welcome to Airbnb’, we are taken on an exciting train journey through amazing landscapes, from a majestic castle and a lush rainforest, to whimsical treehouses and cozy apartments, all wonderfully created by hand. As if the rich details weren’t impressive enough, the dwellings featured were inspired by real listings and Superhosts on the website.
Created by TBWA Singapore, the ad was filmed in a single take in a warehouse in Auckland without any computer generated imagery. A team of 30 people spent five weeks which totalled 2,400 hours, crafting the 85-square-meter train set.
“As you board the train in this film, you’re transported into a magical world that represents the very heart of Airbnb. As you wind your way through some of the amazing listings Airbnb has to offer, you get a different perspective on the world. With each viewing, you see something unique and interesting that you didn’t notice before, mirroring the experience that many people have when they travel with Airbnb,” said Jonathan Mildenhall, chief marketing officer of Airbnb.
Watch the ad below, and find out it how it was put together in the making-of video after.
