World’s First Hello Kitty Chinese Restaurant Serves Up Adorable Dishes
By Melissa Goh, 12 May 2015
Fans of Hello Kitty can now dine in the world’s first Chinese restaurant inspired by the beloved Sanrio character.
Restaurant owner Man Kwong told TIME, “Hello Kitty is more popular in Hong Kong than in [her native] Japan”.
Man Kwong first started negotiating with Sanrio to come on board the restaurant in late 2013, and they have since experimented with hundreds of different dim sum dishes before getting the approval of Sanrio executives for the final menu, which consists of 37 items.
The dishes range from stir-fried beef, noodles, and fresh shrimp buns, made from all-natural ingredients—for example, the flour bow is colored with beetroot juice, her eyes are dotted with squid ink, and the bun skin made with high-quality flour.
The official launch of the restaurant will be on 1 June 2015. Head over to the restaurant’s Facebook page to find out more.
