Photographer Explores Her Role As Mother In Intimate Photos Taken Over 10 Years
By Yoon Sann Wong, 13 May 2015
Starting a family was not part of the plan for twenty-six-year-old Tucson-based photographer Shannon Smith.
At that age however, she was already mother to a 14-month-old baby girl, with another boy on the way, concurrently juggling studies in her third year at graduate school.
Having grown up without a father, Smith felt fascinated watching her husband parent their children. Their interactions exposed her to occurrences she never had the opportunity to experience as a child.
Armed with her camera, Smith began capturing personal moments of her family life eight years ago as part of her series ‘Doing It Domestic’. Dedication to the project also enabled her to chronicle her growth as a mother.
Over time, her family members eventually transformed from subjects into collaborators.
You can view some of the photos from the series below or visit her website to discover more of her works.
