For those who are changing careers and have forgotten how to write a cover letter, here are some tips from Sara McCord of career advice website The Muse.
Firstly, do not work off a cover letter that is several years old. You might have found an old cover letter in your email archives and may be tempted to use it for your job application, but you would only be boxing yourself in. Your writing skills would have improved since then and you should give yourself the freedom to start afresh.
Before you start drafting your cover letter, McCord suggests reading articles that provide practical tips that will help when you start writing. Reading career advice will help you know what you should avoid and how to better craft your cover letter to help you land an interview.
As you begin writing and sending out cover letters, review them to see what is not working and how you can improve. For more tips, head over here.
