Artist Creates Texturized, Block Colored Pieces With Yoga Mats
By Winona Wee, 14 Jul 2015
Mixed media has made art amorphous and versatile beyond means that artists of yesteryears can imagine. The freedom to choose and fuse different materials, colors and textures together make sure that every piece is unique.
Baltimore-based artist Alex Ebstein is one such artist who delves into the bottomless pit that is called mixed media. Her works feature color blocks and simple shapes, but what makes her work distinctive is her choice of material—yoga mats.
She creates her art by hand-cutting yoga mats and fusing them with acrylic and twine. This gives it a texturized, disconnected feel that is reminiscent of Matisse cut-outs.
