Studio Ghibli Creates Entertaining Illustrated Ads Featuring Cute, Lazy Kittens
By Melissa Goh, 21 Jul 2015
Fans of Studio Ghibli, the Japanese animation film studio, co-founded by Hayao Miyazaki, the man behind popular animated films like Spirited Away, and My Neighbor Totoro, has recently announced that he is working on a new 10-minute short.
The short is expected to take three years to complete, with Miyazaki using computer-generated animation techniques for the first time in his filmmaking career. The short is set to feature the life of a protagonist caterpillar.
Although Miyazaki mentioned that his 2013 The Wind Rises would be his last feature, the studio has not stop creating short animations—over the years, it has created a series of commercials featuring an adorable feline character for Nisshin Seifun Foods, named ‘Konyara’.
Created by animator Katsuya Kondo, these clips feature traditional Japanese ink wash painting techniques—unlike the new CG plans for the caterpillar short—which will keep us entertained till Miyazaki releases his long-awaited new creation.
