Creepy Illustrations Of Profit-Driven Superheroes With Skull Faces
By Dorothy Tan, 22 Jul 2015
Based in Kansas City, illustrator and toy designer Jeremy Madl, who is also the founder of MAD Toy Design, Inc., has created a series of illustrations that reflects his opinion that superheroes of today are “motivated by profit rather than to inspire”.
To show how the ‘Modern Hero’ is just a “a skeleton of what he was in his glory days”, he has drawn well-known comic book characters like Captain American, Iron Man and The Hulk with creepy skull faces.
The famous costumes of these superheroes have also been altered to reflect their focus on money instead of creativity and imagination—for instance, Superman’s logo has been transformed into a money sign.
View all of the illustrations from the series here, and check out more of Madl’s work on his website.
Do you agree that superheroes are now “stuck living in an age of remakes and stagnation”?
