Hewlett-Packard’s Lovely Ad Shows The Power Of Imagination
By Jillian Wong, 23 Jul 2015
To promote its ‘Sprout by HP’ all-in-one desktop platform, Hewlett-Packard has unveiled a lovely ad that shows the power of imagination.
In the spot, we are introduced to the main character ‘Jane’, a bright young girl who doodles on dolls’ faces and dresses up as a volcano for science class. As she grows up and enters the working world however, she becomes dull and uninspired as the drudgery of corporate life wears her down.
While watching her daughter draw on a doll’s face, she is reminded of her creative pursuits in her youth, and the pair embark on fun projects on ‘Sprout’.
Directed by Lance Acord of creative agency 180LA for Hewlett-Packard’s ‘Go Make Things’ campaign, the ad taps into the extremely relatable feeling of having your creativity dulled by the demands of adult life.
Special mention goes to the choice of song, a children’s choir cover of Supertramp’s ‘The Logical Song’, with its wistful lyrics mirroring the story perfectly.
