Vending Machine Offers Bottled Summer Smells For Train Commuters
By Yap Yen, 17 Aug 2015
This vending machine by Holiday Autos allows grouchy commuters a scented “pick-me-up” on the way to work.
Created with production agency Rewind, the vending machine is located at Slough train station in the UK, and it dispenses bottles of freshly cut grass, BBQ, Sea Air and other fragrances that are reminiscent of summer.
Research by Holiday Autos found that Britons feel the “holiday-blues” just 16 days after returning home. The study also revealed that smell is the “most evocative of the sensors with regard to recalling happy holiday memories”. This inspired the company to provide disillusioned commuters an interesting, playful reminder of the holidays.
Commuters can get the bottled scents by simply engaging with a “unique credit-based system” that tweets Holiday Auto about their favorite holiday memories. This gives them credits that would appear on the LCD screen of the machine and allow them to pick a scent of their choice.
So far, the vending machine at Slough Station has been successful and the company intends to extend it further. Find out more by watching the video below.
