Watch: Kids Respond To Being Asked If A Woman Could Do Santa’s Job
By Yoon Sann Wong, 16 Dec 2015
Agency Anomaly conducted a social experiment in line with the festive season by asking children, “If Santa Claus was a woman, could she do the job?”
The majority of the participants in the video answered “no”. The reasons they gave were that she would not be strong enough to haul all the presents, and that she would get lost while traveling on her sled and would probably be better off cooking, amongst others.
Stuart Smith, Anomaly Partner and Chief Strategy Officer, explained, “We tested the idea by asking my kids, and their answers were uncomfortably surprising. What started as a bit of elfish fun about one issue, surfaced another: who and what are shaping our children’s gender perceptions?”
“We want to get people thinking about the lack of powerful female role models, and where better to start than the Head of Christmas?” said Alex Holder, Anomaly Partner and Co-Executive Creative Director.
Anomaly previously partnered with ELLE UK for the ‘#MoreWoman’ campaign where men were Photoshopped out of politics to reveal the striking truth about gender equality.
