For Creatives: Inspiring Comic Explains Why Failure Should Be Your Best Friend
By Yoon Sann Wong, 07 Mar 2016

Failure is one of life’s toughest but most effective teachers–provided that one is willing to learn from it of course.
Similar to Navy SEAL David Goggins’ advice in which he emphasizes the importance of embracing and celebrating defeats, this inspiring comic by Stephen McCranie of Doodle Alley explains why creatives should ‘Be Friends With Failure’.
McCranie uses the very simple example of a baby learning to speak, inspired by language acquisition website AJATT.com, to illustrate why artists need to free themselves from being overly harsh self-critics and understand that failure is not something to be shunned, but welcomed as a sign that you are learning something new.
Enjoy the comic below. You can also purchase it as a poster here. For more of McCranie’s works, visit his website or Doodle Alley.
