Unless you’re a loyalist to a specific brand of smartphone, the numerous options on market can leave you spoilt for choice.
Tech Insider dwindles this selection down to a manageable list comprising 20 different models. Brands include Apple, Samsung, Microsoft, Nexus, HTC and Blackberry.
It’s not revealed on what basis these smartphones have been chosen or ranked, but every choice comes accompanied with a bite-sized write-up that summarizes each model’s strengths as well as approximate price sans carrier contract. Prices can vary depending on retailer.

17: BlackBerry Priv (US$638)

Unlike traditional BlackBerry mobiles that run on the brand’s in-house BlackBerry mobile OS, this model functions on Android and sports an unconventional slide-out keyboard.
According to Tech Insider’s review on the model, it’s a “solid performer with good looks, unique and robust features, and a great camera”.
16: Moto G (US$177)

This Android phone is good enough for the average smartphone user who isn’t looking for anything too fancy. It’s affordable price tag is tough to beat.
11: OnePlus 2 (US$349)

Coming in surprisingly above the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is this mid-range model built by Chinese startup OnePlus.
According to Tech Insider, which gave the model a largely positive review, OnePlus 2 has to be ordered directly from the company and supplies are very limited.
6: Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge (US$747)

Coming in just above the Samsung Galaxy S7 that houses an impressive mobile camera is the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. This model offers a larger 5.5-inch display and battery compared to the S7. Retained features include water-resistance, MicroSD card slot for extra storage and Samsung Pay.
3: iPhone SE (US$399)

Released end March this year, the freshly unveiled iPhone SE with its 4-inch screen offers roughly the same performance as the iPhone 6S at a lower price point. It comes with Apple Pay, Live Photos, fingerprint sensor and enhanced battery life.
