Designer Of Previous Instagram Icon Responds To The App’s New Colorful Revamp
By Yoon Sann Wong, 12 May 2016
Instagram’s new colorful and simplified icon, unveiled yesterday, has been met with mixed reactions from users.
While some have called for the return of the vintage camera visual–created back in 2010 by designer and photographer Cole Rise–others have fully embraced the app’s vibrant new look, including several members of the Instagram community who have gone on to create their own artistic versions of the symbol.
When Mashable asked Rise about his sentiments following Instagram’s new icon debut, the creative responded positively about the revamp.
“I’m super psyched on the new one. I love the minimalism. Regardless of the colors behind it, the white shape–the actual bones of the new symbol itself–is beautiful, and I think that can persist over time.”
Rise also expressed support for friend Robert Padbury, who’s one of the architects behind the app’s new icon.
“If anyone is going to update it, I trust that guy,” said Rise hearteningly. "He’s done so many great icons. I’m glad to see him riff on it.”
Padbury has helped other large companies revamp their logos in the past including Uber.
