Bungee: The Ideal Typeface For Colorful, Vertical Urban Signage
By Sophia Hyder, 21 Jun 2016

This typeface, ‘Bungee’, by David Jonathan Ross celebrates urban sign. Colorful, vertical signs are commonplace in big cities, all shouting and vying for attention, and making the best of the limited space they have.
‘Bungee’ was created by Ross to adapt to horizontal and vertical texts. In the vertical type, each rounded or diagonal letter has a straight side, improving its readability. In fact, he discusses readability in the typeface’s website, questioning whether vertical type even requires lowercase letters, and how to space out letters.
You can even mix and match the different styles that the typeface comes in, which are Regular, Inline, Outline, and Shade. Each layer can be styled individually.
The typeface is shipped with stylistic alternates, and a collection of arrows, pointing hands, and background shapes inspired by it.
You can get ‘Bungee’ on Github and on Google fonts. You can also view the website here.
