LA Transit Safety Ads Feature Animated Characters That Die Violent Deaths
By Sophia Hyder, 28 Jun 2016
These Los Angeles public safety ads hope to convey the message of ‘safety begins with you’ to commuters, in these rather sardonic videos of animated characters dying violent deaths.
The six videos, with titles like ‘Mindful or mangled?’ and ‘Heads-up or headless?’, are set in a fictional town of Safetyville, which is ironically named considering none of its residents know a thing about safety. The Safetyvilleans are there to serve as a reminder to not do stupid things like run after the train, or try to drive past train tracks without checking.
Done in a simple color scheme of yellow and black, with a pleasant, almost uncaring, voice narrating the characters’ deaths, the ads are hilarious in a vaguely unsettling way. Metro’s director of social media tells Buzzfeed that the response has been “overwhelmingly positive”.
