Dove’s Empowering New Ad Spotlights Women’s Capabilities Over Looks
By Yoon Sann Wong, 29 Jun 2016

Dove is known for its empowering marketing including its previous project ‘Campaign for Real Beauty’, its ‘Real Strength’ ad that redefined masculinity and its ‘#ChooseBeautiful’ spot.
Now, the brand’s latest ‘#MyBeautyMySay’ campaign encourages women to value their self-worth beyond solely their looks.
The ad titled ‘Beauty on your own terms’ features nine real women and their experiences with being judged based on how they appear.
“They said I was too pretty to fight. You’re going to mess up that beautiful face,” recounts professional kickboxer Heather.
“They said my nose was too prominent,” shares burlesque dancer Grace.
“They said I was too masculine, boyish and ugly,” says New York–based model Rain.
“Somewhere along the way, it has become the norm to judge women based on their appearance,” explained Jennifer Bremner, director of marketing at Dove.
“Instead, her beauty should be celebrated on her terms. We want women to challenge this behavior that has unfortunately become commonplace in our society. We are giving all women a platform to speak out and join us to change the conversation.”
