Short Horror Film Shows Deadliness In Obsessing With One’s ‘Ideal Self’ Online
By Yoon Sann Wong, 30 Jun 2016

“Instagram creates a certain kind of delusion. We hyper filter our lives down to the best photos of the best moments. Essentially, we create an idealized version of self that we can never live up to. It can be destructive without self-awareness.”
Director Alex J. Mann explains the inspiration behind his latest project Me2–a short horror film that plays on the carefully curated self-presentation of one’s life on Instagram.
The story follows a young woman who is dissatisfied about her appearance. Even though she likes the way she’s made herself look online, her reflection in the mirror brews a different sentiment.
While Me2 stars a woman as the main character, Mann clarifies that men can be equally obsessed with their self-presentation online.
