A Minimal, Elegant Bike Rack-Cum-Shelf Made With Lovely Blue-Streaked Wood
By Dorothy Tan, 07 Jul 2016
Due to global warming, there is now a Mountain Pine Beetle epidemic in Canadian forests—this has not only killed 18 million hectares of trees, but also created an environmental crisis as these dead trees emit an enormous amount of carbon dioxide every year.
Based in Vancouver, Canada, creative company Killwood has found a way to upcycle the wood from these tress killed by pine beetles into a lovely bike rack that doubles as a shelf for everyday essentials.
Made with unique, naturally blue-streaked wood, the Bika bike rack is modern, minimal and elegant in its simplicity—not only would you be able to display your treasured ride in a stylish way, but there is also a handy shelf for you to store frequently used items, books and anything else that would fit.
Featuring a magnetic bottom, you can simply let your keys suspend under the rack and grab them as you head out of the door.
The Bika is currently crowd-funding on Kickstarter—for every pledge over CAD$10, Killwood would plant a tree in your name to help restore the Canadian forests.
