Men Get Photoshopped To Resemble Ideal Female Body Types, Disgusted At Results
By Yoon Sann Wong, 13 Jul 2016
“Gross…I hate this, I don’t like seeing myself like this.”
Last month, BuzzFeed’s Try Guys conducted an experiment in which they subjected themselves to photoshop to achieve their ideal body types.
Responses from the video inspired the team to create a follow-up–this time discovering what its like to come under the stresses of living up to the unrealistic expectations of achieving society’s definition of the “ideal female body type”.
Each of the four men recreated famously photoshopped prints featuring celebrities such as Madonna and Kim Kardashian, as well as models of renowned fashion brands Victoria’s Secret and Ralph Lauren.
The team was, to say the least, stunned and appalled by the results of the photo shoot and retouching.
One member commented:
“I just felt so beaten down. There were expectations of me that I couldn’t meet.”
“I’m an object, my face won’t even be in the photo…there was nothing human about that, it’s just, an object, lit beautifully and now it’ll be photoshopped to look even better,” laments Keith, who was designated to recreate this Victoria’s Secret poster.
“Everything you think is real, is constructed,” says Eugene during his photo shoot inspired by Kim Kardashian.
“I know I’m a very skinny person, but seeing them together, I’m like ‘oh no’, we should take some of the roundness off that. Now that I see the one on the right, I look chubby as fuck in the left photo,” says one of the members after seeing his before and after photoshop images inspired by Ralph Lauren’s ridiculously edited ad.
