Wes Anderson-Inspired Hotel For Bees Raises Awareness Of Need To Protect Them
By Sophia Hyder, 21 Jul 2016
Bees play a crucial role in pollinating plants, ensuring crops and other flora survive. Unfortunately, bee population is on the decline due to urbanization, pesticide use, and pollution.
The busy bugs also create wonderful flavors we use in food, something that British tea brand Taylors of Harrogate is quick to point out. It is thankful for the bees, for producing such rich flavors to use in its teas. They’ve built a miniature, intricately designed luxury hotel for the little pollinators to raise awareness of how important they are.
“Bees are so important in helping to provide great flavour, but less attention has been paid to show how urban areas can be made more pollinator-friendly. The aim of the bee hotel is to not only educate and entertain, but to also inspire action,” Kate Halloran of Taylors of Harrogate said in a statement.
The Grand Beedapest Hotel, as it is called, features a rose lemonade restaurant, a lemongrass and ginger bar, and a peppermint tea leaf gym and spa, amongst other facilities.
Taylors of Harrogate also wants to encourage people to be nicer to bees, ensuring they have enough food and resting spaces. Since bees can also thrive in urban areas, the tea brand is trying to get people to help. You can do this by building ‘bee hotels’ and growing bee-friendly plants.
