PANTONE Releases Its Color Forecast Report For A/W 2017-2018
By Dorothy Tan, 26 Jul 2016
The Pantone Color Institute, the leading authority on all things color-related, recently presented its forecast report for A/W 2017-2018 at Texworld USA.
“Pink: Dermic pinks take center stage, evolving into a series of paler, more fragile shades to express a transparent nudity. Beiges, off white and blues are all subtly influenced by pink, while pink mauves are the new baby pink.”
This year, the report is titled ‘Disguise’—according to Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the institute, “disguise does not have to be literal”, and “putting on a disguise can endow a person with new qualities”, which can be “empowering and freeing”.
“Yellow: Lemon zest will be key this season, adding sunshine and light to any palette.”
This theme is apt when we consider that the world is changing, with old rules and structures giving way to blurred boundaries—in an environment like this, disguise is a way for us to adapt and to survive.
“Purple: Mauve shades gather in strength and focus.”
In the context, colors play a distinctive role in “transforming appearance and fulfilling a fundamental desire for change”.
