Airbnb Launches Its Own In-House Design Studio ‘Samara’ With Distinct Logo
By Yoon Sann Wong, 04 Aug 2016

Airbnb is no longer just about renting out unique accommodations across the globe.
The brand recently announced the launch of its own in-house design studio called Samara. This arm will take Airbnb into the foray of architecture, product design and possibly even software engineering.
According to its website, Samara is set to explore “new attitudes towards sharing and trust. Samara builds hardware and software that support this direction.”
Samara’s logo is an adaptation of Airbnb’s emblem, both of which have been created by DesignStudio. A dot disrupts the continuous looping “A” in Airbnb’s visual, seemingly suggesting that Samara is a break in Airbnb’s original operations.
The design studio has already set off to work with the creation of the ‘Yoshino Cedar House’, done in partnership with Tokyo-based architect Go Hasegawa.
The residence sits in the rustic village of Yoshino and serves as a rentable Airbnb accommodation that’s maintained by the village community. Proceeds from every booking will go towards supporting the village.
