Watch: How This Captivating ‘Burger Drop’ Shot Was Ambitiously Made Sans CGI
By Azira Amran, 19 Aug 2016

There’s nothing like a well-executed burger drop shot to make you immediately jones for a sizzling hot, double quarter pounder with cheese.
Majority of such videos are created fairly painlessly using computer graphics, but videographer Steve Giralt wanted to find out what it would take to recreate these visuals without CGI.
After spending several hours a day experimenting in the lab, Giralt finally produced a contraption capable of making this happen called the ‘Precision Arduino Timing Relay Imaging Controller’–otherwise known as ‘P.A.T.R.I.C’.
The clever contraption is able to perfectly time its shots to capture every single element of the burger falling gracefully together at amazing speeds. Although the burger takes its own sweet time to form in the final product, the actual drop ends in a heartbeat.
See the final clip and discover the fascinating way it was brought to life in the second video below.
