Life-Sized Graphite Skeleton Draws Itself To Death, Makes You Think About Life
By Chloe Pek, 11 Nov 2016
What will you leave behind in death? Hopefully works of art, like this graphite skeleton did.
In an art installation by Agelio Batle, ‘Ash Dancer’ is essentially a skeleton pencil, disintegrating as it leaves its mark on earth.
The life-sized graphite is placed on a “specially constructed, high frequency vibrating table” that is laid with Vellum paper, leaving smudges on the surface as it rattles across the table.
The result is a series of abstract graphite drawings, but the real art lies in the process, which “serves as a metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life”.
See the thought-provoking and rattling piece below, and you can view it in Batle's ‘MURMUR / TREMBLE’ exhibition at Jack Fischer Gallery, San Francisco until 29 December, 2016.
