Unnerving Video Puts Us In The Shoes Of An Autistic Adult During A Job Interview
By Chloe Pek, 23 Nov 2016
Job interviews can be incredibly nerve-wrecking, no matter how many times we go through it.
The experience becomes worse when the jobseeker is autistic.
According to statistics by the National Autistic Society, only 16% of autistic adults are in full-time paid work, with 32% in some kind of paid work.
Shedding light on the struggles autistic adults face in seeking employment, the society released a PSA that shows us the point of view of an autistic jobseeker.
Surrounded by the lights and noises of a busy workplace, vague questions and skeptical employers, the man breaks down at the end of his interview, escaping the sensory overload of the office.
As part of the society’s campaign, the National Autistic Society is also providing tips to make the workplace more autistic-friendly, and creating a petition to close the employment gap for autistic people.
