Fascinating Facts About Disney’s ‘Moana’ You Probably Didn’t Know
By Junru Tan, 28 Nov 2016

Unlike Disney’s classic storytelling formula of princesses finding love, the upcoming film animation Moana does not involve a romantic lead.
Instead, the film focuses on a young girl embarking on a Polynesian journey of self-discovery with a demi-god, who is played by Dwayne Johnson.
During a press event at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California in July, BuzzFeed News has managed to gathered a list of interesting facts about the latest animation.
If you have yet to catch the movie in theaters, the following information may contain spoilers.
“Moana is both a name and a word in the South Pacific — it means “ocean” and is not a gendered name. The character was deliberately designed to have a “realistic” body type and is believed to have the most similarities to Mulan, but “more extreme.””
“Flounder from The Little Mermaid and Olaf from Frozen both appear in the film. All the noises Pua makes are real pig noises — he isn’t voiced by a human. HeiHei’s voice is an interweaving of Alan Tudyk voicing rooster sounds and real recorded rooster sounds.”
“The characters’ hair in Moana was unlike any other hair the animation team had designed before. They had to create new processes and tools to manipulate hair in order to have it look naturalistic and dynamic. Also, the animators originally envisioned Maui as being bald.”
