If you’re in search of an acrylic that reflects your dark—but still somewhat nice—soul, look no further than British artist Stuart Semple’s ultra-black paint, which was developed out of a heart of gold.
Not long after artist Anish Kapoor reserved exclusive rights to the “world’s blackest color” pigment ‘Vantablack’, Stuart got together with thousands of artists to create ‘BLACK 2.0’—an open-source version that can be shipped to anyone around the world “except Anish Kapoor”.
To artists everywhere, the dark days are finally over. ‘BLACK 2.0’ is the “most pigmented, flattest, mattest black acrylic paint in the world.” Stuart’s heavy duty pigment-holding ‘Super Base’ goes into its foundation, which enables the paint to dry to a mind-bogglingly flat, anti-reflective finish with a Black Hole effect.
Stuart explains that the material, “is not the blackest black in the world. It is however a better black than the blackest black in the world as it is actually usable by artists.” To put emphasis on the acrylic’s comparative pleasantness, ‘BLACK 2.0’ is even black cherry-scented.
Despite the pigment’s super black solution, the fact that it’s this obtainable provides a light at the end of the tunnel for creatives the world over. Get your hands on a bottle by heading over to Stuart’s website here.
