New York-based painter Aja Trier is behind these contemporary mashups that fuse famous pop culture characters with Van Gogh’s legendary ‘The Starry Night’ painting.
Inspiration for the unique collection came from a lapse that was made by an education blog. It had erroneously shared Trier’s painting of the Eiffel Tower and credited it as a piece by Van Gogh. What the blog didn’t realize is that construction for the Eiffel Tower began in 1887 and was successfully erected in 1889; Van Gogh passed away in 1890. See the disparity?
The painter made light of the error and asked herself, what else did Van Gogh not see? Thus her ‘Starry Night’ collection was born. The series stars popular pop culture personalities including ‘Totoro’, ‘No-Face’ from Spirited Away, ‘Snoopy’, ‘Stewie’ from Family Guy, and more.
