What did home solutions look like from the 1950s to 1980s? You can’t time travel back to your relatives’ humble abodes, but you can flip through history with these retro IKEA catalogs.
Nordic Style Magazine has discovered a collection of old IKEA catalog covers provided by Smörgås Pinners, the official Pinterest account of IKEA’s communication writers. You might want to grab your favorite ‘POÄNG’ chair for this one.
The catalogs clue you in on the hottest interior design and color trends from back in the day, and also offer insight on how the Swedish furniture giant has evolved over the years. If you haven’t heard by now, IKEA has so much foresight, it even produced a 99-cent bag years before a crazily similar-looking luxury bag—retailing at US$2,145—hit the shelves.
Take a look at the precious page-turners below. Check out all of the released vintage IKEA catalog covers over at the Smörgås Pinners Pinterest board.
In case you missed it, discover the origins behind IKEA’s product names. This way, you won’t be completely clueless the next time you step into its store.
