Fashion brand Belle Chic sells pretty, delicate jewellery, clothing, and bags.
The company’s cute collection includes a range of tote bags featuring tongue-in-cheek slogans such as “I Can’t Adult Today” and “All I Need Is Mascara And Caffeine”. However, one particular bag seemed less politically correct—if not downright racist—than the others.
The tote bag in question drew both shock and amusement from netizens because it appeared to read “My Favorite Color Is Hitler”—with ‘Hitler’ having been printed in sparkly gold type.
As it turns out, the mistake was due to the poor design of the thick, stylized and glittery typeface used—the slogan meant to be read as “My Favorite Color Is Glitter”.
After the ‘Hitler’ bag began to making rounds on the internet, Belle Chic quickly replaced it with a newer design that uses a thinner font, ensuring the word ‘glitter’ could not possibly be mistaken for the name of a particularly infamous fascist.
“We are beyond embarrassed about the design of our GLITTER tote bag,” said the brand in social media posts featuring the newer, less sensational design.
Take a look below—did the original incriminating bag look like ‘Hitler’ or ‘glitter’ to you?
