Watch The Ultimate ‘Generic Millennial Ad’ That Will Make Your Stomach Churn
By Yoon Sann Wong, 31 Aug 2017

How easy is it to advertise to Generation Y today? It’s this easy according to stock footage and photography company Dissolve plus And/Or studio.
‘This is a Generic Millennnial Ad’ is the third entry in Dissolve’s series consisting ‘This is a Generic Brand Video’ and ‘This is a Generic Presidential Campaign Ad’. Scripts were written by And/Or’s Kendra Eash.
In a combination featuring some of the most general marketing tactics commonly seen today, the duo demonstrates a pattern seen in advertisements aimed at anyone born between 1980 and 2000.
Dissolve explains inside a press release, “Even though millennials share their every thought and moment in social media, marketers can’t figure them out. ‘This Is a Generic Millennial Ad’ parodies the multinational brands that pay lip service to the youth market with meaningless hashtags, misplaced emojis, slang that’s totes old, and stale pitches to ‘join the conversation.’”
“Co-opting political protest to sell beverages? Cashing in on pride week? Making token gestures to environmentalism? It’s all here, over an irresistible montage of smiling millennial faces taking selfies, wearing VR goggles, and looking bored.”
