IDEA Design Awards Launches A Bold New Logo, Refreshes Brand Identity
By Izza Sofia, 12 Sep 2017
One of the world’s most prestigious design competitions is getting an updated look.
With the help of Fuse Project—the design studio founded by longtime Yves Béhar—the International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) is undergoing changes, including the redesign of its trophy.
“IDEA is the award by designers, for designers. Fuseproject worked with IDSA specifically to rebrand IDEA and redesign the trophy to reflect the evolving industry it celebrates. Our goal was to create a new identity and trophy that feels as diverse and as expressive as the design industry itself,” says Béhar.
The redesign includes the logo, trophy and the identity of the trophy. The new branding takes on children’s building blocks; the letter ‘A’ looks like a triangle while the ‘E’ looks like a set of stairs. The trophy is made of 3D letters which form a cube that is held together by magnets.
“The magic is in how these [letters] come together,” Yves explains in his design statement, “just like a design solution is a beautiful puzzle, where each piece can stand on its own, but where they work better together. The colour scheme is influenced by the built world around us—bright and playful.”
“We hope to show the beautiful, cohesive, evolving, flexible, playful, iterative, eccentric, wonderful world of design—and indicate the bright future of our ever-changing industry,” he says.
