AI appears to be the future. Luckily, you won’t have to take up courses to grasp an understanding of it—AT&T is launching an open-source service that lets you create your very own AI-powered app.
The ‘AI Marketplace’, a collaboration between AI expert Acumos and nonprofit The Linux Foundation, will host a selection of AI capabilities, including facial recognition and location tracking, that you can pick and match from to easily build more powerful apps.
In a press release, Jim Zemlin—the Executive Director at The Linux Foundation—explains, “ An open and connected AI platform will promote collaboration as developers and companies look to define the future of AI.”
“Because the platform is open source, it will be accessible to anyone with an interest in AI and machine learning, and customizable to meet specific needs. We expect interest from organizations doing work with autonomous vehicles, drones, content curation and analytics, and much more.”
Mazin Gilbert, AT&T’s Vice President of Advanced Technology, tells Mashable, “The goal of Acumos is to lower the barrier to entry to AI and increase adoption and deployments of AI services.”
The service is currently only available to companies that pay a fee for early access. The ‘AI Marketplace’ will be ready for release to the public, at no charge, beginning 2018.
